To outsiders, Erotic Massage Parlours are some of the big unknowns in Chiang Mai. You can walk past regular massage shops and get a Happy Ending, you can visit a Soapy Massage Parlour and get laid, but where are the Erotic Massage Parlours and what's on offer?
Erotic Massage Parlours, or body-to-body massage parlours (B2Bs) are the offspring of contemporary Thai culture and Thai society in particular in Chiang Mai. While prostitution is officially declared illegal in Thailand, it is in practice secretly 'tolerated' in certain places by paying off enforcement officers. The handful of Soapy Massage Parlours in Chiang Mai are the only five to hold a 'special license' (officially not for providing full sex but for a soapy massage or something alike), but they are by far not enough to satisfy the demand for sexual or semi-sexual services.
So, together with take-away brothels and other obscure venus, erotic massage parlours cater for the needs of the market.

In total there are about 20 or so B2B parlours in and around Chiang Mai. Compare this to the only 5 soapy massage parlours, and you'll realize that they represent a fairly large amount of girls.
Officially, body to body massage parlours are just a particular kind of spa and only offer a particular kind of massage, but most girls in all of them provide sex, which is camouflaged by the word 'full service' (in the same way that a handjob in a happy ending massage parlour is camouflaged by the euphemism 'special'). Besides that, some richer Thai men may use B2Bs as a pool to source a new gik or girlfriend.
While soapy massage parlours often publicly advertise in local newspapers, body-to-body massage parlours cannot do so and typically operate more covertly.
The standard treatment in an erotic massage parlour is a BODY-TO-BODY MASSAGE (B2B), where the girl will massage you with her breasts, body and hands, completely naked and finishes you with a handjob.
Standard prices for a B2B massage typically range between from THB 1,000-1,700 and a 'treatment' usually lasts 1 hour and 20 min or an hour (but don't expect the girl to fill up the time completely in all B2B parlours).
Normally, the girl will shower with you, before and after, but in less-well managed places, the girl may tell you to shower by yourself first.
More and more places now offer a menu with so-called 'spray' (เสปย์), which simply means blowjob, usually with condom. Whether or not the girl is willing to give you a BBBJ (blowjob without condom) depends on the girl and is not sold over the counter. The natural deciding moment of that is during the shower, then the girl washed your cock and can see how clean it is.
If a blowjob is not on the menu, it should cost you no more than 300-500 baht extra in negotiation with the girl.
Full service (in other words sex) is sometimes explicitly on the menu and sometimes not. If it's on the menu and you want it anyway, it's probably better to just order it at the counter, this saves you the negotiation part with the girl and you won't face any suprises, like asking for 3000 baht or so more for full service.
If it's not on the menu or you don't choose full service from the menu, it's between you and the girl what happens in the room for what price and that can differ greatly. Some girls in B2B parlours ask a staggering 2,000-3,000 baht extra for full service, so that can make you leave disappointed if you wanted to top the B2B off with some real juice.
Typically, however, most girls in B2Bs will provide full service for an extra THB 1,000.
Is it cheaper to buy the full service at the reception or in the room? Well, nowadays it's usually not cheaper to negotiate your way in the room with the girl alone, as the shop typically adds a 1,000 baht or sometimes just 500 baht. But if you look like Brad Pitt and you enjoy the art of courting, hey do it your way.
Anything else that's not on the menu you can negotiate with the girl: anal (probably 1,000 baht extra if at all), cum more than once (probably THB 200-300 extra unless the girl is forgiving and grants you that for free), etc.
While you're at it, you can also consider a sandwich package with 2 girls, which sometimes gives you a discount on the second girl.
Some guys argue that the price of a B2B is high compared to plainly getting laid in a soapy for say THB 1,300 or to getting a handjob massage for THB 800-1,000, other call body-to-body massage places 'glorified handjob parlours'. This is comparing apples to oranges, there is good in every category of male entertainment in Chiang Mai, it just depends what's your personal preference.

The main asset of body-to-body massage parlours are their herd: the girls are usually prettier than in regular massage shops and IMHO also prettier than in soapies.
There are reasons for that. To work in a regular massage shop, you actually need skills and you need to work hard, you have to press your fingers into some guys back and you get tired. To work in a B2B, the main asset you need is to be pretty and the main skill is to be able to rub yourself against some guy and to spread your legs.
As for soapies, nowadays fewer and fewer girls like to work in soapy massage parlours because they are openly on display behind the glass, because it's a plain sex service as a prostitute while in some B2Bs they can still choose not to have sex with the customer, and because these places attract fewer and fewer customers with their old-fashioned business ways.
So if you're pretty, you don't want to sit on the road and show your face to everybody like on Loikroh road, you don't want to ruin your nails and you don't want to stay up all night like in a karaoke, the way to earn big bucks is in a B2B.
The reasons to choose a Happy Ending massage instead of a B2B, is when you care more about having a nice massage and you don't necessarily want the girl to be naked or to have sex, although that is often still negotiable in many hanky panky places.
The total number of girls working in body-to-body massage parlours in Chiang Mai well exceeds that of the soapy massage parlours: the five soapy massage parlours that Chiang Mai houses together probably employ some 100-150 girls (with some of them waning with numbers below 5), while the 20+ body-to-body massage parlours are good for 300-500 girls, ballpark estimate. So this is a relatively large pool of girls to dive in, not just for a hour of fun but also to source a potential sideline girl or gik, as many girls here are actually part-timers and some students wanting to make ends meet.
Besides that, soapy massage parlours are actually the dinosaurs of the Thai sex industry, with grand room decorations and bathtubs all reminiscent of times long gone, while B2B are the new trend.

They are the last stand in Chiang Mai where it`s possible to get pretty girls, but for me most were an anti-climax. In most of them I have been short timed and all the girls had their restrictions one way or another. Even those offering full sex, they want it over quickly and still a mechanical service. If you fancy a quick thrill with a hot girl at a high price, these are the places to go, but they could definitely improve their customer services and try to live more up to what they promise in their ads. |
