There are probably hundreds, if not thousands of little massage shops everywhere in Chiang Mai where you can get a good or average massage. However, why not try something different and help the local people at the same time?

BLIND MASSAGE

Blind people in Thailand don't really have much chance to make a normal living, so some organisations help them to learn massage skills and they are often very dedicated at it. The average blind massage treatment is better than the average massage treatment down the road, blind people "see" with their hands and are very loving, caring people.

FEMALE PRISONER MASSAGE

The Chiang Mai Female prison is right in the middle of the Old Town, and the prisoners are allowed to perform little activities such a making souvenirs and providing massage therapy as a way for them to keep active and engaged.

MASSAGE IN TEMPLES

Temples in Thailand are not only spiritual but also social places. There are many temples where you can get a pretty good massage, not by monks but by regular practioners.
