Cursed by some, yet loved by others, going to a karaoke in Thailand can be a worthwhile experience but it can also be a total disappointment that can cost you dearly.
Whether you get what you want depends on what you're looking for, which place you go to, and how you prepare yourself.
To some (mostly Japanese, Koreans, Thai and some westerners) karaokes in Chiang Mai are a sourcing pool of pretty girls that you can use to find a girlfriend, a 'gik' or even a wife. To others, it can be just a fun night out with friends with the option of getting laid.
Put simply, karaokes offer booze, girls and some audiovisual equipment to playback songs. You can have a good time if you go with friends, pick the right girls, and manage your costs. To the contrary, it can become the darkest night of the year if you don't prepare well, let girls pass by without getting anything, and don't keep track of the bills. You won't be the first bloke to be ripped off at ten thousands of baht (!) and tasered if you don't pay.
There are probably some 30-100 karaokes in Chiang Mai, depending whether you include the small 'local' ones or not. Not all of these are putting their customers interests' first, in fact, some of them are just aiming at getting as much cash out of your pockets as they can, by cheating you in every way they can.
Put simply, there are 3 kinds of karaokes in Chiang Mai:
I. the 'proper' karaokes that rip you off
II. the 'proper' karaokes that give you a fair service
III. the small local karaokes.

 | Dan Posted on April 28, 2023 at 12:18:35 DO NOT GO TO KARAOKE. I went to Seven or Forever Karaoke, i don’t know the name. The grab driver told me it’s Seven, but the bill in my credit card was by Forever karaoke. Bought a 1500 bottle of whiskey, sat for 1 hour and chose 1 girl for 500baht. The total bill came out to 15,000 baht in just that 1 hour. You have to pay for everything, even random girls that walk in and take a seat without even asking you. The karaoke place only has 4 rooms and i was the only customer. May these scums never live a peaceful life. |
 | David Posted on October 27, 2019 at 04:14:25 Valentines Karaoke ChangMai Live in Thailand for 7 years and this place is the worst ever that I have been ripped off Bought a 1200 bottle of Whiskey and the final padded bill was 22,000 they charge for water ice a guy to pour your drink and if other girls pass buy they charge for extra drinks for them even for the manager and supervisor I think we even were charged to go and pee Avoid this place a like the plague Parasites at their worst |
