The name of this office is a bit confusing (this is because the translation from Thai to English is a bit incorrect, translating the province of Chiang Mai as 'Chiang Mai Provincial Land'), but this is where you go with your scooter or car to:
- register it in your name
- pay yearly taxes (and get insurance).
For your scooter, enter from the main road and go to the government office left at the back. Normally, you have to pay for scooter insurance first (a few hundred baht per year). There are a few companies offering that in the window front office next to the entrance of the government office. They will check your scooter too. Every 5 years, you got to get an additional check too, which is done by a company (there are many in that road).
Not to be confused with the Chiang Mai Provincial Land Transport Office on the road to Hang Dong, which is for your driving license. And not to be confused with the Land Transport office in Maerim where you can transfer a title deed of property.
